The Preseli Astronomy Group was formed in October 2010 after the demise of the 'West Wales Astronomy Group'. Since September 2012 we have been based at Letterston Memorial Hall, meeting on the first Tuesday of every month (except August). From an initial gathering of 6 individuals our monthly meetings regularly draw an audience of 30+.
In January 2012 the group was formalised with the adoption of a constitution and the formation of committee:
At the same time the group successfully applied for membership of the Federation of Astronomical Societies (Fedastro). For many years, up to October 2017, our treasurer, Mike Pritchard, served on the FedAstro council as membership secretary. Later that same year, in April 2012 the group secured a 'Big Lottery Grant'. This money, together with donations from the committee, enabled us to purchase several scopes and other equipment to assist us in the delivery of our monthly lectures, solar events and observation evenings.
The monthly lecture schedule is devised (and delivered) by members - indeed any member with a specific interest/skill/knowledge can offer to deliver a lecture. This allows us to keep our costs down and build to the future. Our current aim is to secure an observatory.
